Text EntriesThis is a Stephen Vigil photograph of The Tupperwares, a short-lived Seattle Punk band, sometime in 1976. Tomata Du Plenty, born David Harrigan (1948 – 2000) and former leader of the cabaret and comedy troupe Ze Whiz Kidz, Melba Toast, born Tommy Gear (b. unknown), and Rio De Janeiro, born David Gulbranson (b. unknown) formed The Tupperwares in 1975. In 1976, they performed their first show, backed by local Punk band The Telepaths, at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, prior to the premiere of the John Waters movie, “Pink Flamingos.” The band also performed, in 1976, at Polish Hall and the Oddfellows Temple in Seattle. The band dissolved by 1977, and Du Plenty and Gear formed an Electropunk band called The Screamers in Los Angeles. Here, pictured from left to right is Rio De Janeiro, Melba Toast, and Du Plenty.
Horizontal black and white photograph and the three members of the Tupperwares, from left to right: Rio De Janeiro, wearing a Tupperwares shirt, Melba Toast, wearing a trench coat, and Tomata Du Plenty, in a leather jacket with a captain’s hat and a cigarette in his mouth.
