Gold Record Pillow Autographed by Donna Summer, 1976
This gold record pillow was signed by “the Queen of Disco,” Donna Summer around 1976 for Casablanca Record Vice President of Business Affairs, Richard Etlinger.
Donna Summer, (LaDonna Adrian Gaines, 1948 – 2012) was a singer/songwriter who started as the frontwoman of the Psychedelic Blues Rock group Crow in the 1960s. In 1968 she moved to Germany to be in the Rock musical Hair. It was during this time she met and began working with Giorgio Moroder (b.1940) and in 1975 they released “Love to Love You.” Casablanca Record released the song in the US, promoting a 17-minute-long version for discos and renaming the song “Love to Love You Baby.” The following year, the song had reached number two on the Billboard charts and become a gold single. Although known for Disco, Summer crossed genres from Gospel, New Wave, Rock, to R&B including her eponymous 1982 album produced by Quincy Jones. Other famous Summer tunes include “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls,” “Forgive Me,” and “She Works Hard for the Money.”
