Description

Jimi Hendrix wore this iconic Westerner brand black wool felt hat in concert and around London from October 1967 through the end of that year. It features a black headband covered by a narrow, purple crepe scarf, which is decorated with a turquoise and silver owl broach, metal and plastic buttons, and gold-toned bucking bronco pins. Hendrix most famously wore this on the cover of his 1969 greatest hits album, Smash Hits. He also wore the hat during a filming session in late 1967 at Bruce Fleming's photo studio in London. The resulting film shows Hendrix playing an acoustic version of his blues song, “Hear My Train A' Comin,” on a borrowed 12-string acoustic guitar. The footage appears in Joe Boyd's 1973 documentary, A Film About Jimi Hendrix.

Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970) was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter who gained mainstream prominence in the late 1960s with hits such as “Hey Joe,” “Purple Haze,” “All Along the Watchtower,” and “Fire,” and is now celebrated as one of the most influential electric guitarists of all time.

Black wool felt hat with a purple scarf covering the black headband. Affixed to the purple scarf are a turquoise and silver owl broach, metal and plastic buttons, and gold-toned bucking bronco pins. The inside of the hat features a leather sweatband and bow, a red nylon fabric liner with a clear plastic liner tip printed with the words “The Westerner” in gold.
