This mask was made for the horror film Black Phone, 2021, starring Ethan Hawke and written by Joe Hill. The masks were designed and created by Jason Baker and Tom Savini of Callosum Studios. Co-founded by Tom Savini and Baker in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Collosum Studios creates special effects for film, television, theater and more. A total of 30 masks were made for the film, with the three masks in MoPOP’s permanent collection used as backups during production. The masks were created to be the signature look for the antagonist of the film, child serial killer The Grabber. Throughout the film, The Grabber wears an interchangeable mask with three different variants, smiling, blank, and frowning. Baker is originally from Sedro-Woolley, Washington.
Off-white, discolored frowning mask with cut away eye holes, exaggerated smile lines, and horns off of the forehead, elongated shape. Made of buffalo leather, acrylic paint, latex, fiberglass resin, and dirt.
