This costume was worn by Pris (full name Priscilla Stratton), portrayed by Daryl Hannah (b. 1960), in the sci-fi film noir Blade Runner (1982). Although costume designers Michael Kaplan (b. unknown) and Charles Knode (1942-2023) took inspiration from American Western 1930s-40s attire for other characters’ costumes, this costume reflects punk fashion of the late 1970s and early 1980s. One of only two costumes Pris wears in the movie—notably, her character is introduced wearing this costume.

Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott (b. 1937), is based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968) by Philip K. Dick (1928-1982). The film stars Harrison Ford (b. 1942) as Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter in the Blade Runner Unit of the Los Angeles Police Department in 2019. Although the film’s success upon release was underwhelming, Blade Runner grew to be appreciated for its dark themes and visual style influential to the cyberpunk genre. Now, the film is one of critical merit: in 2022, Sight and Sound magazine ranked Blade Runner number 54 out of 250 of “The Greatest Films of All Time.” Blade Runner has since expanded into a franchise containing sequels, video games, TV shows, and, controversially, several versions of the original movie.

Two silver-studded black chokers, ¾ sleeves black mesh shirt, structured leotard underneath (black fabric with rainbow shimmer) without sleeves, a pair of spaghetti straps on each shoulder forming a V in the front, short shorts made of same fabric as leotard with leotard’s gusset on top, black sheer stockings with attached garters and several torn holes, two thicker black legwarmers (about knee height) overtop stockings, two silver pumps with slight heel.
