This single from Annakonda was recorded in 1978 as part of a promotion for local bands to record tributes to the Seattle SuperSonics basketball team. Annakonda formed in Spokane, Washington but later moved to Seattle, Washington. “Sonic Boom” was written specifically for the SuperSonics. However, “Wheedle’s Groove” was initially titled “Space Bot” before the band renamed it in honor of the SuperSonics’ mascot, the Wheedle, therefore relating both songs to the team. It was the funky instrumental, “Wheedle’s Grove,” that caught on and became the unofficial theme song for the SuperSonics during their 1978 season.
7” phonograph record with green label. Side A text reads: “BXI Records / Side A / Produced by Annakonda / BXI Music / ASCAP / 3:01 / Sonic Boom / (Annakonda) / Annakonda / Manufactured by Vancouver, Canada” Side B text reads: “BXI Records / Side A / Produced by Annakonda / BXI Music / ASCAP / 2:56 / Wheedle’s Groove / (Annakonda) / Annakonda / Manufactured by Vancouver, Canada”
