Barbara Pittman Stage Worn Costume
This shirt and pants ensemble was formerly worn on stage by Rockabilly singer, Barbara Pittman (1938-2005).
Pittman grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and pursued a music career after high school. From 1955-1956, Pittman toured with singing cowboy movie star Lash LaRue (1917-1996). She was one of the only female artists to record at Sun Studio, known for recording Elvis Presley, B.B. King, Jonny Cash, and Carl Perkins among others. Although her albums did not receive large commercial success, Pittman is well known for her recordings “I Need A Man,” “Two Young Fools in Love,” and her versatile style of singing. After recording for Sun Studio, Pittman worked on soundtracks for various films in the ’60s.
