West Coast Record Distributors is the first Black-owned artist-owned record distribution company ever created by Alonzo Williams (b. 1957). Known as the Godfather of West Coast Hip-Hop, Alonzo was also the founder of Kru-Cut records and a founding member of World Class Wreckin’ Cru. Alonzo worked locally as a mobile DJ and worked small dance parties with DJ Unknown, Dr. Dre, and DJ Yella where they were known as the Disco Construction. Alonzo owned three famous nightclubs in Los Angeles, Dudo’s, Eve’s After Dark, and Skateland USA all in the downtown Los Angeles region. Specifically, Eve After Dark was the club where Alonzo did his music production within the small studio behind the back of the nightclub. Alonzo is best known for creating the innovative World Class Wreckin’ Cru and helping with the rise of Gangsta Rap.
