Death Row Records is a record label that was founded in 1991 by Dr. Dre and Suge Knight. Based in Los Angeles, California, the label was one of the leading labels in the West Coast hip-hop scene in the 1990s and was home to some of the biggest names in rap, including Dre, Snoop, Daz, Kurupt, Nate Dogg, Lady of Rage, the D.O.C., and  RBX.  The record company was well-known for its gangsta rap sound and street-tough aesthetic, which frequently captured the gritty realities of inner-city life in Los Angeles, California. Death Row Records became one of the most important labels in the rap industry after selling millions of records and winning both critical and financial acclaim.
