Text EntriesShabba Ranks (Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon, b. 1966) is a Jamaican Dancehall and Reggae artist from St. Ann, Jamaica. As the first Dancehall artist to win a Grammy, Shabba Ranks was one of the most popular Jamaican musicians in the world emerging in the late 1980s and growing popularity into the early 1990s. Signing with Epic Records in 1989, Ranks' distinctive, thunderous growl of a rapping voice and sex appeal earned him several hit singles and albums on the R&B and Reggae charts in the early '90s and made him a crossover success in the U.S.. Shabba Ranks success also granted him two Grammys for his 1992 album As Raw as Ever and his 1993 album X-tra Naked for Best Reggae Album.
