Jimi Hendrix handwrote these lyrics to “Room Full of Mirrors” in 1968. That same year, on August 12, he recorded a demo version of the song, with vocals and guitar backed only by a harmonica player. Hendrix performed the song for the first time in concert at the Royal Albert Hall on February 24, 1969. At the end of the year, Hendrix incorporated elements of blues and funk to the arrangement when recording the tune with Buddy Miles on drums. He continued to work on “Room Full of Mirrors” in the studio and on stage throughout 1970 for inclusion on what would have been his fourth studio album that remained unfinished at the time of his death. The track was eventually released in 1971 as part of Rainbow Bridge and again in 1997 as part of First Rays of the New Rising Sun, both compilation albums.
Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970) was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter who gained mainstream prominence in the late 1960s with hits such as “Hey Joe,” “Purple Haze,” “All Along the Watchtower,” and “Fire,” and is now celebrated as one of the most influential electric guitarists of all time.
