Hip-Hop fashion took on many forms and styles of expression. While the music has always represented creativity, the fashion in Hip-Hop took on that same effort where artists, DJs, dancers, and fans of the culture would dress uniquely to express their fashion taste. What people in their community were wearing locally would go on to influence urban streetwear or B-boy style. The street/B-Boy style included jeans, sneakers, tank tops, oversized clothing, large gold jewelry, velour sweat suits, Cazals glasses, and Kangol hats.

Kay Gee (Keir Lamont Gist, b. 1969) is a DJ and record producer from East Orange, New Jersey, best known as a member of the Hip-Hop trio Naughty by Nature. Naughty by Nature is a Hip-Hop trio from East Orange, New Jersey consisting of Treach (Anthony Criss, b. 1970), Vin Rock (Vincent Brown, b. 1970), and DJ Kay Gee (Keir Lamont Gist, b. 1969). Discovered by their East Orange around-the-way girl Queen Latifah, the members of Naughty by Nature were apart part of her posse, the Flavor Unit. Naughty by Nature's first hit was "O.P.P.", which sampled the Jackson 5's hit "ABC" and was released in 1991 on their self-titled album Naughty by Nature. Their formula for success combined two opposite trends from the other side of the country. They mixed rap with pop samples with their lyrics, shifting from sexual innuendo to stories of tough urban life. They are known for being one of the few rap acts who were able to balance success on the pop charts with hardcore rap credibility.
