Death Row is a record label founded in 1992 by West Coast producer and rapper Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, The D.O.C. and Dick Griffey. Death Row gained popularity by releasing multi-platinum Hip-Hop albums in the early 1990s by West Coast-based artists such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur. Death Row attorney David Kenner (b. unknown) and Suge Knight began signing young, inner-city California-based artists and arranged for the label to handle the soundtrack for the movie Deep Cover (1992). David Kenner is also a veteran and criminal defense attorney, who served as the executive and head counsel at Death Row Records and has represented rappers Suge Knight, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac Shakur.

Above the Rim – The Soundtrack is the official soundtrack to the 1994 film, released by Death Row on March 22, 1994. The album won the Soundtrack of the Year award at the 1995 Source Awards and was the third album under the label to reach number one on the R&B Albums chart where it stayed for ten nonconsecutive weeks. The soundtrack was executive produced by Suge Knight and Dr. Dre was the supervising producer.
Murder Was the Case is a 1994 short film and soundtrack album starring and performed by Snoop Doggy Dogg (Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., b. 1971). The film chronicles the fictional death of Snoop Dogg and his resurrection after making a deal with the Devil. The 18-minute film was directed by Dr. Dre and Fab 5 Freddy.
