If My Homie Calls / Brenda's Got A Baby
"Brenda's Got a Baby" was first released as a promotional CD single a month prior to 2PAC’s debut album release, then in February 1992 it was re-released as a double A-side single with the song “If My Homie Calls”. The song features R&B singer Dave Hollister singing background vocals with Roniece Levias. The singles were produced by Deon "Big D the Impossible" Evans and The Underground Railroad. "Brenda's Got a Baby" is about a 12-year-old girl named Brenda who lives in a ghetto and has a baby she can't support. The song explores the issue of teen pregnancy and its effect on young mothers and their families.
Tupac/2PAC (Tupac Amaru Shakur, b.1971 - 1996) was born in New York and was the son to parents and relatives who were members of the Black Panther Party. Tupac’s political ideals on racial injustice highly influenced his music and social consciousness. As a Harlem and Baltimore native, Tupac began his music career as a member of the Oakland Hip-Hop group Digital Underground before his solo career in 1991 with the release of his debut album, 2Pacalypse Now. Tupac emerged in the 1990s as a central figure in the West Coast Hip-Hop scene, introducing social issues on Black life in America where Gangsta Rap was dominant in West Coast Hip-Hop. Tupac's consistent themes in his lyrics addressed contemporary social issues in inner cities, including violence, hardship, and racism. During his career Tupac has sold over 75,000,000 records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His talent as a socially conscious rapper and actor has influenced many and garnered him the respect as one of the best rappers in history.
