Text EntriesCypress Hill is the debut studio album by the Hip-Hop group Cypress Hill. It was released on August 13, 1991 by Ruffhouse Records and Columbia Records. The album went Double Platinum in the U.S. with over 2 million units sold. In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums.
Cypress Hill was formed in 1986 when Cuban-born brothers Sen Dog (Senen Reyes, b. 1965) and Mellow Man Ace hooked up with fellow Los Angeles residents Muggs (Lawrence Muggerud, b.1968) and B Real (Louis Freese, b. 1970). Named after a local street in Los Angeles, Cypress Hill’s hit song, “Insane in the Brain” became a crossover hit founding a fusion of Latin and Hip-Hop slang that developed their unique style.
