“Rappers Delight” (Long Version) vinyl record album by The Sugar Hill Gang.

“Rapper’s Delight” was the first recorded rap hit released on September 16, 1979, that projected hip-hop into the public. “Rapper’s Delight” sold two million copies and became the first rap song to hit the Top 40 on Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 36. The song is performed by The Sugar Hill Gang members, Wonder Mike (Michael Wright, b. 1957), Big Bank Hank (Henry Jackson, 1956-2014) and Master Gee (Guy O’Brien, b. 1962). The song sampled from Chic’s “Good Times” and was written by Cold Crush member Grandmaster Caz and produced by Sylvia Robinson. The 15-minute single is credited as introducing hip-hop to a mainstream audience.

12inch vinyl record. Vinyl sits in a light blue sleeve with “Sugar Hill” written in cursive red, blue and yellow striped colored font. There is a blue skyline of a city in the middle of the sleeve where record states, “Sugar Hill, Rapper’s Delight, Long Version, Sugar Hill Gang”
