Body Count is an 90s heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California. The group was fronted by Ice-T, who established himself as a rapper and co-founded the group with lead guitarist Ernie C.. Body Count's self-titled debut album was released on Sire Records in 1992 and garnered much attention due to controversy around the song "Cop Killer". "Cop Killer" quickly drew widespread condemnation for inciting violence against police officers. The artists claimed that the song was simply intended as a commentary on the police brutality and racism felt by the Black community. The album's material focuses on various social and political issues ranging from police brutality to drug abuse.
