Lobby Card from the Movie "Futureworld"
This lobby card promoted the 1976 film Futureworld. Lobby cards are small movie posters that came in sets of around 6 – 12. The sets usually featured a title card with the name of the film and several scene cards—a sort of paper trailer. As implied by the name, lobby cards were displayed in cinema lobbies to advertise current and upcoming features.
Futureworld was the sequel to the 1973 film Westworld, a franchise recently popularized by the 2016 HBO television series. After the disastrous events of Westworld, the park has reopened with a new area—Futureworld, set on a space station. This time, though, the androids don’t simply run amok. They have plans for global domination.
An eight-inch tall by 10-inch wide cardboard placard with a photo and caption. The black and white photo is of a Caucasian man, right, wearing a denim shirt and glasses shaking hands with an android, left. The android wears overalls, an old-fashioned striped shirt and matching train engineer’s cap. The android’s hairless, earless head is plastic. It has computer circuitry in place of a face. The photo is inscribed with handwritten white lettering that reads “7612-50-28 F5”
The caption below reads: “7612-50-28 BOND OF FRIENDSHIP -- Peter Fonda as Chuck Browning, an investigative reporter, strikes up a fast friendship with “Clark the Dummy,” a robot left over from the “Westworld” days, as he seeks classified information on the operation of Delos, a new resort playground for the wealthy and powerful in American International’s new film “FUTUREWORLD.” © American International Pictures 1975 All Rights Reserved
