Tascam 8 Channel Recorder/Reproducer Formerly Owned by Elliott Smith
This tape deck was used by singer/songwriter Elliott Smith (1969-2003) to record songs for his 1997 album Either/Or, as well as material released on the 2007 posthumous anthology New Moon.
Smith first came to prominence in the early 1990s with Portland, Oregon-based band Heatmiser. In 1994, Smith recorded his debut solo album Roman Candle, featuring a singer-songwriter-influenced sound markedly different from the grunge and indie rock popular at the time. Across five albums, and until his untimely death in 2003, Smith’s solo work resonated with fans in the Pacific Northwest and around the world, highlighting his accomplished songwriting, intricate melodies, melodic voice, and evocative, melancholy lyrics.
