Rock and Roll legend Chuck Berry (1926-2017) almost always played Gibson hollow body or semi-hollow body guitars like this road-tested and signed 1973 Gibson ES-355TDC with stereo wiring and gold-plated hardware.

John Lennon (1940-1980) said, “If you tried to give Rock and Roll another name, you might call it ‘Chuck Berry.’” Named “The Father of Rock and Roll,” and one of the first Black musicians to bring Rock to white audiences, Berry’s instantly-identifiable blend of Boogie, Blues, Country, Swing, and Pop is the Rosetta Stone of modern guitar, influencing everyone who followed. His compositions form the foundation of rock; “Johnny B. Goode” was his iconic masterpiece, but the number of essential Chuck Berry songs is as extensive as the incredibly diverse group of artists who have played them: Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, AC/DC, the Ramones, Tom Petty, the Sex Pistols, Elton John – Chuck Berry's stature in the canon of Rock cannot be overstated.

Rounded guitar body with dark red translucent finish, two “f”-shaped soundholes, black plastic tone, volume, and pickup selector knobs, tortoiseshell pickguard, gold-plated metal hardware, worn to the silver base metal in places. Ebony fretboard with pearl block inlays. Signed “Chuck Berry” with a simplified drawing of a face, in silver marker.
