Uncle Luke (Luther Campbell, b. 1960) is a rapper, producer, and entrepreneur from Miami, Florida. He rose to prominence in the late 1980s as the leader of the rap group 2 Live Crew and was known for his explicit and controversial lyrics. Uncle Luke's music helped to popularize the Miami bass sound and was the subject of legal battles over censorship and free speech. Despite the controversy, Uncle Luke's music was a commercial success, and 2 Live Crew released several platinum-selling albums throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. In addition to his music career, Uncle Luke was an important figure in the business side of hip-hop, launching his own record label, Luke Records, and producing albums for other artists.
