Romeo Gigli Sunglasses Worn and Signed by Bono
Lead vocalist Bono (Paul David Hewson, b.1960) wore these Romeo Gigli sunglasses on U2’s Elevation Tour in 2001, to promote the band’s hit album All That You Can’t Leave Behind. The style of the frames is an update from the large, opaque shades he combined with a tight, black outfit to create “The Fly” persona—a satirical “rock star” character—during U2’s Zoo Tour in 1992. Bono autographed the side of the glasses.
Irish rock band U2 formed in 1976 and includes members: Bono, the Edge (vocals and guitar), Adam Clayton (bass) and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums). The band is known for their songs “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Pride (In the Name of Love),” and “With or Without You,” with the later hitting number one in the US music charts. U2 has released 14 albums and won 22 Grammy Awards, making them the record holder for most Grammy Awards won by a musical group.
