Text EntriesAxis: Bold As Love, the second album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, entered the British charts at No. 22 on December 13, 1967, and eventually reached No. 5, staying on the charts for a total of 16 weeks. The album’s recording sessions lasted just two weeks, but Hendrix still insisted upon many takes until the songs were performed and mixed exactly as he had envisioned. The engineers and technicians obliged him, if only for the challenge of meeting Hendrix’s demands for certain sounds. The opening track “EXP” shows off the numerous effects that Hendrix created in the studio and gives the impression that he is taking off for the stars. On “Little Wing,” a signature song on the album, Hendrix expresses his affection for a mystical woman. To match the somewhat metaphysical tone of the album, designer David King (1943-2016) layered an image of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, which was created by artist Roger Law (b. 1941), over a picture on an Indian religious poster.
Rectangular album jacket with a colorful illustration of the Jimi Hendrix Experience overlayed in front of Indian religious iconography. Expressive type listing the band and album name are placed within a circular sun element at the top center of the album jacket.
