No Limit Records was an American record label founded by rapper, entrepreneur, and CEO Master P. The label included artists such as Snoop Dogg, Silkk the Shocker, Mystikal, Mia X, Mac, C-Murder, Magic, Romeo, Fiend, Kane & Abel, and Soulja Slim. In 1998, No Limit Records would have the greatest year in Hip-Hop history releasing a staggering 23 albums—some reports say 29 unofficial No Limit releases. During the 1990s, No Limit releases came to define New Orleans hip-hop for national audiences with a growing roster. The label’s extensive roster included artists from elsewhere such as the iconic West Coast artist Snoop Dogg, who released several albums between 1998 and 2001.

Silkk the Shocker (Vyshonne Miller, b. 1975) was the preeminent rapper on No Limit Records, the underground hardcore rap label that became a sensation in the late '90s. Vyshonn King Miller was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in the Calliope Projects, which is located in the 3rd Ward of Uptown New Orleans, along with his two brothers Percy “Master P” Miller, Corey “C-Murder” Miller and three other siblings. In 1996, Silkk released his debut, The Shocker, on No Limit Records. Shortly after its release, he appended "the Shocker" as a surname. The Shocker slowly became an underground success, largely based on strong word of mouth. Throughout the course of 1997, Silkk the Shocker was all over No Limit releases, appearing on the I'm Bout It soundtrack, Tru's Tru 2 da Game, Mia X's Unlady Like, Mystikal's Unpredictable, and Master P's Ghetto D.
