“It’s Yours” is one of the earliest recordings produced by Rick Rubin, who founded Def Jam Records.  It was released in the spring of 1984 and became an immediate hit among hip-hop enthusiasts.  While the recording is one of the first releases to bear the Def Jam logo, which appears on the single’s jacket, Arthur Baker’s Partytime label appears on the disc itself. By the time of the single's release Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam Records, had not yet joined with Rick Rubin.  Rick Rubin had originally chosen Kool Moe Dee of the Treacherous 3 as the vocalist for this song.  Because the Treacherous 3 was still under contract with Sugar Hill Records, Kool Moe Dee was unable to record the song and suggested that Rubin hire T La Rock, the brother of Treacherous 3’s Special K. Adam Horowitz of the Beastie Boys also appears on this record. He is heard as a background vocalist portraying a partygoer.
Front Cover: T La Rock and Jazzy Jay are printed in black ink on a red background. To the right is a red tonrarm on a black background. Back cover: Contains track listing, artist and record details in black ink.
