Text EntriesThis costume was worn by actor James Horan as Jo'Bril in the episode "Suspicions" for the television show Star Trek: The Next Generation. The Season 6 episode first aired May 9, 1993. This unusual costume has a large hole in the center surrounded by burn marks. The episode deals with racial bias as a Ferengi (Dr. Reyga) has created a new technology, but is not given scientific credence as Ferengi are known more for their avarice and sly business dealings. Dr. Jo’Bril volunteers to pilot a shuttle with the new technology. The flight is a failure and he seems to die. Upon further investigation, Dr. Crusher finds that Dr. Jo’Bril is actually alive and is planning on stealing the technology. In an ensuing fight, Crusher shoots him with an energy weapon called a phaser, resulting in the damage to the tunic. The blue fabric that fills the hole was used as a blue screen for a special effect. In post-production, the blue screen was removed and replaced with an image of what was behind the actor, creating the gruesome illusion that he had been shot clean through.
A 50” long tunic with swirling brown and crème patterned under fabric with overlapping light green/beige square patterns on dark green background fabric cut out pieces over the arms, shoulders and front central section. There is also a simulated circular burn damage, about 6 inches wide, in the lower central chest and upper abdominal area. The hole is filled with bright blue fabric.
