This Batman costume was designed by Jose Fernandez (b. 1965) and worn by George Clooney (b. 1961) in the 1997 film Batman and Robin, directed by Joel Schumacher (b. 1939).
Jose Fernandez began his career as a sculptor on the film Gremlins (1989), working with make-up and special effects artist Rick Baker (b. 1950). He has worked on films and television shows such as Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019), The Tick (2019), Alice: Through the Looking Glass (2016), Hellboy (2004), and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 (2023).

Created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger for DC Comics in 1939, Batman, along with many of the most popular comic book superheroes, was created by Jewish Americans in the wake of Kristallnacht, a Nazi pogrom against Jews in Germany, and the horrors of World War II.

Batman has had a profound impact on the medium of comics, film, television, and video games. The character’s darker tone and exploration of gritty themes bring a new level of maturity to superhero narratives. Batman’s story delves into themes of justice, morality, vengeance, and the line between heroism and vigilantism.

A sleek, form-fitting bodysuit, made from a shiny, black rubberized material. The suit features a prominent, sculpted musculature, highlighting the chest, abs, and arms. The bat emblem is embossed on the chest, blending into the suit's surface. The cowl covers the head entirely, with pointed bat ears, sharp eye openings, and a smooth finish. The cape is long and attaches at the shoulders, draping down to the floor. The suit also includes boots with reinforced soles, gloves with fins along the forearms, and a utility belt with a metallic finish.
