Text Entries

These snakeskin platform shoes were worn by English singer, pianist, and composer Elton John. (b. 1947) Known for his eclectic and extravagant costumes and accessories, John has worked with many notable designers who have helped craft his on stage identity and produce memorable performances.

John’s musical talent emerged at a very early age, and his piano playing reached levels of virtuosity by the time he entered his teens. He released his first album in 1969 and had his first hit, “Your Song,” the following year. He was one of rock’s biggest figures in the 1970s, with raucous stage performances in wildly fantastical costumes that brought his sweeping ballads and rock anthems an air of glam theatrics. He has sold over 300 million records worldwide during his decades-spanning career.
