Shawl Formerly Owned by Stevie Nicks
This long shawl was formerly owned by singer/songwriter, Stevie (Stephanie) Nicks (b. 1948). Known for her recognizable clothing choices, this shawl fit in with Nicks’ dramatic, groovy style of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Becoming more aware of her stage performance presence, Nicks began working with fashion designer Margi Kent to create a memorable onstage look. Nicks would often have multiple wardrobe changes in a single performance including eclectic hats, platform boots, fringed or beaded shawls and her signature ribbon adorned tambourine.
In 1974 Nicks, along with her musical partner Lindsey Buckingham, joined the British blues band, Fleetwood Mac who were in Los Angeles scouting out a recording studio. The following year the newly formed American-British group released an eponymous album, that reached No. 1 on the US Billboard chart. A talented songwriter, Nicks’ song “Rhiannon,” was voted one of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone and was one of the stand-out songs on the album. Nicks would continue performing and recording with Fleetwood Mac, but released her first of eight solo albums in 1981. In 2019 she became the only woman to have been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, once as a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1998 and then as a solo artist in 2019.
