During the golden age of hip-hop, the Juice Crew was a collective of rappers who released the majority of their records on Cold Chillin' Records a label co-owned by Tyrone Williams and Mr. Magic. Kool G. Rap, Big Daddy Kane, MC Shan, Craig G, Roxanne Shante, and Biz Markie were all members of the Juice Crew. The Juice Crew have left a lasting impression on hip-hop history. Many of the artists from the crew are some of the most revered and talented in the game from. The host for this benefit concert was Mr. Magic. Mr. Magic was a well-known DJ with a rap show on New York's WBLS 107.5 FM called “Mr. Magic’s Rap Attack.”

The handbill lists Roxanne Shante, who had her first hit single with “Roxanne’s Revenge,” a response song to UTFO’s “Roxanne Roxanne.”  Choosing to focus on school, it was three years before she released her second single, “Have a Nice Day,” advertised here.  Spoonie G, formerly of the Treacherous 3, a crew popular in the late 1970s, is also on the bill. MC Shan’s “The Bridge” was the first single released on Cold Chillin’ Records.  It was released in 1986. The song started a musical conflict between the Juice Crew of Queens and Boogie Down Productions of the South Bronx when Boogie Down Productions incorrectly interpreted the song as a slight against the South Bronx. By the time of the event promoted here, the artists had reconciled their dispute and both performed at this benefit concert.
