- Jim Walters, from Emergency Exit, printed in the Seattle Times
This poster advertises Seattle’s first All Day Trips Festival, which was held at the Eagle’s Auditorium, and featured music by Emergency Exit, The Seeds and The Daily Flash. Trips Festivals originated in San Francisco, California and were multi-sensory experiences meant to simulate the use of psychedelics.
Emergency Exit was formed in 1965 by Paul Goldsmith (b. unknown), Luther Rabb (1942-2006), Bill Leyritz (1945-2006), and Jim Walters (b. unknown). Although the band members all had a history with mainstream Rock ‘n’ Roll, their willingness to experiment with new sounds for new audiences led them to produce music best characterized as Garage Rock. The group only performed together for a couple of years, disbanding in 1967, but members continued playing music individually and with other groups. Luther Rabb, in particular, would go on to form the band Ballin’ Jack and later tour with Santana and War.
The Seeds was a Garage Rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, California. The original band members were Sky Saxon (1937-2009), Jan Savage (1942-2020), Daryl Hooper (b. unknown) and Rick Andridge (1945-2011). In 1967, the band moved toward Psychedelic Rock with their third album, Future. The Seeds’ music influenced the Punk and Grunge genres, and two of their songs were covered by The Ramones and Nirvana.
The Daily Flash was formed in 1965 in Seattle, Washington by original band members Steve Lalor (1944-2018), Don MacAllister (b. 1942), Doug Hastings (b. 1946), Jon Keliohor (b. 1941). They created a unique sound by incorporating Folk, Jazz and Blues into their music. At the height of their popularity, The Daily Flash played with groups including The Byrds, The Doors and Country Joe & The Fish. In 1967 the band lost and replaced a couple members, and ultimately disbanded in 1968.
