The Fags and The Enemy: A Night at Danceland U.S.A., Seattle, WA, April 4, 1981
The Fags were a punk band originally formed in Seattle, where they got their name one night from local promoter Steve Pritchard (b. 1948), who, not knowing the name of the band, introduced them as such. Siblings Ben (b. unknown), a drummer, and Barbara Ireland (b. unknown), a singer, bassist, and filmmaker, joined guitarists Paul Solger (b. unknown), who had started Solger, one of Seattle’s first hardcore punk bands, and Dahny Reed (b. unknown), as well as vocalist Upchuck (d. 1990), who had just left his band Clone, to form The Fags in 1980. The band also found success in NYC, where they were known for wild stage shows including vampire weddings and full body day-glow tattoos. They continued to perform In Seattle intermittently, including hosting macaroni and cheese bakeoffs.
The Enemy was a Seattle Punk band active from 1978 to 1982, featuring Peter Barnes (b. unknown) on drums, Michael Clarke on bass (b. unknown), vocalist Suzi Grant (b. unknown), George Gleason (b. unknown) on guitar and vocals, Paul Hood (b. unknown) on bass and vocals, and Damon Titus (b. unknown) on guitar, bass, and vocals, managed by Roger Husbands (1940 – 2015). The band was formed by many members of the Fruitland Famine Band, which had been active from 1974 to 1978.
