This is the yearbook for Garfield High School’s 1960-1961 academic year. It features the last school photograph of Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970), who would not finish high school, instead enlisting in the Army on May 31, 1961. At the time, Hendrix had already developed a reputation in the Seattle, Washington area for his skills on the guitar, having formed his first band, the Velvetones, and playing with the Rocking Kings. At the time he enlisted, Hendrix was on his third guitar, a red Silvertone Danelectro, but left the instrument in Seattle when he left for basic training.
