This double-breasted green velvet jacket was Jimi Hendrix’s first foray into Swinging London’s world of bespoke fashion. It was designed and manufactured by Chelsea boutique Dandie Fashions and worn by Hendrix around town and in concert from January to March 1967.

Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970) was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter who gained mainstream prominence in the late 1960s with hits such as “Hey Joe,” “Purple Haze,” “All Along the Watchtower,” and “Fire,” and is now celebrated as one of the most influential electric guitarists of all time.

When Jimi Hendrix toured with Little Richard and the Isley Brothers in 1964 – 65, he was forced to wear matching outfits with the rest of his bandmates. On his own in fashionable London, he was eager to express his individuality and shopped at the hip clothiers on King’s Road and Carnaby Street.

Double-breasted, Dandie Fashions brand medium green cotton velvet slim-fit, men’s suit jacket. Cuffs, collar, and pockets feature darker green cotton velvet material. The back has a single vent and the interior is lined with black and white vertical striped silk fabric.
